Entering Your First Tournament
As you are preparing for your first debate tournament, I want to share this with you...
I'll never forget my first tournament. I had no idea what to expect or how well I'd do, but I was excited and determined to enjoy every second of it. I remember being surprised by the competition. Some of the teams were easy to beat, other teams easily beat me... but I took away something from each round. Whether a memory, a new found friend, or a lesson learned, I can honestly say I am thankful for each opportunity I had to debate. I'm truly a better person for it, and I pray that the same is true for each of you.
I want each and every one of you to know that not a day goes by that I don't think about and pray for you all, particularly in anticipation of Saturday. I'm so proud of how much you've accomplished so far, and I know that God is blessing this debate program and has so much more in store.
Thank you all for demonstrating such confidence and team spirit. Your enthusiasm, hard work, and diligence is tremendous. Not many people have the courage and confidence to do what you are about to do on Saturday. I hope you walk away having learned things you never knew, experienced things you'll appreciate in the future, and encouraged by the progress you've made.
Whatever the results, whoever takes home the most awards, please enter with the intention of doing your best, giving the glory to God, and learning all you can. If you do that, then everyone will leave victorious.
Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to teach you, to get to know you, and to learn from you. I can't wait for the tournament.. I hope you enjoy it as much as I will!
In Christ's Service,
Kristina Lyn Haines
